Cheapest housing prices in California? Where to find homes as low as $250K

California's median home price in October was $886,960, slightly up from September but below last year's October. Mortgage rates have risen to about 6% despite a recent Fed rate cut. Affordable homes, starting around $250,000, are mainly in Northern California and the Central Valley. The highest prices are in the Bay Area, with San Mateo County's median at over $2 million. Housing demand remains steady as 2025 ends.
